The ETUCE special conference was organized on July 5-6. in Liège, Belgium. The conference offered the member organizations an opportunity to gather together to build common goals and think about ways to strengthen the appreciation of the work of teachers and other workers in the education sector.

Third notice of strike in the private education sector

Today, OAJ, Trade Union for the Public and Welfare Sectors JHL and Federation of Public and Private Sector Employees Jyty issued a notice of strike concerning fifteen private schools in Helsinki and two private schools in Tampere. Unless a solution is found, a week-long strike will begin on May 3 and ends on May 9.

Second notice of strike in the private education sector

Today, OAJ, Trade Union for the Public and Welfare Sectors JHL and Federation of Public and Private Sector Employees Jyty issued a notice of strike of one day (26 April) concerning fifteen private schools in Helsinki. The strike day will follow the previously announced strike days on 19–25 April. The notice of strike ensures that the collective agreement negotiations are taken to the National Conciliator's office.

Why is the salary programme so important

The salary programme could help correct the injustices that have arisen over the years. The claims of the employer side, for example, that the salary demands are unreasonable, do not stand up to closer scrutiny – it would be more unreasonable to not offset the existing salary increase debt. However, the implementation of the salary programme will likely also require input from the government.

Striking is a right of teachers and supervisors

In recent days, OAJ has received an exceptional number of messages regarding employers' attempts to break teachers' right to strike. Employers have drawn up lists of, among other things, principals and directors of ECEC centres joining the strike. Both participation in industrial action and membership of a trade union are personal matters and legal rights of everyone, which the employer is not allowed to investigate in advance.

Extensive notice of strike regarding teachers in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area

Notices of strike concerning teachers will be extended to the Helsinki Metropolitan Area. The latest notice of strike concerns 11,400 teachers. The aim of the teachers' strike is to secure fair salaries for teachers employed by the municipalities and to safeguard the continuity of high-quality education in Finland.

Minister Haatainen postpones the teachers' strike for two weeks

At the request of the National Conciliator, Minister of Labour Tuula Haatainen has postponed the strikes concerning teachers for two weeks. The new date for the strike concerning the teaching staff of the cities of Jyväskylä and Rovaniemi is 6–7 April and the corresponding strike in Tampere and Kuopio is 12 - 13 April, unless a solution is found before then.
