How to download the app

 

Note! The application cannot be found in the app stores of mobile phone manufacturers.
Open your mobile phone’s browser and enter the address https://app.oaj.fi

First, read the three-step download guide. Follow the instructions, and add the app to your phone’s home screen. Open the application and log in using your member ID, online banking codes or the Mobile ID. If you’re having trouble logging in, check the login instructions for advice.

The application works on Android and iOS operating systems. We recommend that you keep the browser on your mobile phone up to date.

Membership card renews at the beginning of 2023

The plastic card will become history at the turn of the year, when the membership card will be permanently transferred to the OAJ application. The membership card already works on phones, so you should download the application and wait for the beginning of the year!

Instructions and frequently asked questions: OAJ app and membersip card

Please note that the membership card will be renewed no later than January 1, 2023. The current membership card lacks e.g. association information and validity period. 

 

Why can’t I install the app even though I followed the installation instructions? 

Check at least the following: has security software been installed on your phone? If so, check its settings to see if the security software prevents the installation of third-party software. Did you install the app in a location where the internet connection was good and stable enough? During the installation, the application will be installed on the phone in its entirety so that it can also be used in offline mode in the future. Try reinstalling the app in a different location.

What does “a trusted device" refer to when logging in? 

When you save your phone as a trusted device, you do not have to log in separately every time.

After logging in, the app offers you the option to mark your phone as a trusted device. Once you accept, you will be able to use the app for 12 months without having to log in again. You will be prompted to name your device with the name of your choice. You can later manage your trusted devices in the My Profile section on the Member Online Services page. You can access the page from the same location where you can change your password.

If you change phones and you have set your phone as a trusted device, it is important to remove the old phone from your trusted devices list for security reasons.

Adding the app to the home screen together with other apps varies slightly, depending on the phone model:

Installing with Safari 

  1. When at oaj.fi on Safari, tap the share button (square with an arrow pointing up) at the bottom of the screen. 
  2. Select “Add to home screen” from the menu that appears. 
  3. Close the browser, and find the OAJ icon on the home screen of your phone. 
  4. Open the app by tapping the icon, and log in.

 

Can I change the browser used by the OAJ app on my iPhone?

Apple has determined that on the iPhone iOS operating system, the application can be stored on the phone’s home screen only via the Safari browser.

How do I download the app on an Android device?

Adding the app to the home screen together with other apps varies slightly, depending on the phone model:

Installing with Google Chrome 

  1. When at app.oaj.fi, tap the “Add to home screen” text at the bottom of the screen. If the text does not appear at the bottom of the screen, tap the three dots in the top-right corner of the screen.
  2. From the menu that appears, select “Add to home screen”. If the menu does not contain this text, but you can see “Open OAJ” instead, this means that the application is already installed on your phone.
  3. Close the browser, and find the OAJ icon on the home screen of your phone.
  4. Open the app by tapping the icon, and log in.

NOTE: On some Samsung models, the downloaded apps appear in the Samsung Apps folder and need to be separately added to the home screen. 


Installing with Firefox

  1. When at oaj.fi, tap on the image of a house with a + sign inside it, at the top of the screen.
  2. Select “Add to home screen” on the window that appears. 
  3. Close the browser, and find the OAJ icon on the home screen of your phone.
  4. Open the app by tapping the icon, and log in.

NOTE: On some Samsung models, the downloaded apps appear in the Samsung Apps folder and need to be separately added to the home screen.

Why can’t I find the OAJ app in the app store?

The app is browser-based, meaning that the app is not available in app stores. You can download the app at app.oaj.fi. Follow the instructions to add the app to your home screen, and sign in.


Is it necessary to update the app?

There is no need to update a browser-based application, and updates do not require any action from the user. If you change your phone or mobile browser, you must add the app to the home menu again by following the instructions above.


Where can I find information about updates to the app’s content or the version of the app?

Information about the app version and the last update date for the app are shown on the last line of the Contact us section. 


I opened the application, but the forms are empty and, for example, I need to log in to the contact form separately. Why is that?

You probably opened the app without logging in. You can browse the app without logging in, but logging in will complete your membership information in the app and make using the online services significantly faster. Click here to read login instructions.

The app is not working properly; what can I do?

Remove the app from your phone. Clear the browser cache.  Then follow the instructions to download the app again.

I am switching my mobile device. How do I securely delete the OAJ app from my old device?

If you have set your phone as a trusted device, it is important to remember to remove the device from your list of trusted devices.

How do I remove my phone from the list of trusted devices?

You can manage your trusted devices by logging in to the My Profile section and going to the Member Online Services page. You can access this page from the same place where you can change your password. On the home page, you can find a section titled “Trusted devices”, which lists all your trusted devices. To remove a device, uncheck it by tapping on the x on the right-hand side of the selected device.

Why is the app only available in Finnish?

The application has been implemented in cooperation with the Akava trade unions, and the first version is only available in Finnish. Other language versions of the OAJ app have been requested by the system vendor and should become available in the future. However, the contents related to obtaining a membership card have been translated into Swedish and English.

I have signed up for Fiilismittari, but it doesn’t recognise me?

This may be due to the fact that you use a different e-mail address from the one saved as the primary e-mail address in the OAJ member registry. You can continue to use the app and Vibemetrics anyway. If you wish, you can update your e-mail address to be the same in the membership information or in Vibemetrics.

I noticed that the app also contains Member+ benefits. I am registered with the Member+ service, as well. Will the OAJ app replace the Member+ service?

You can still continue to use the Member+ service. However, the content of the service is linked to the OAJ application and can be found under the heading “Yhteiset akavalaiset edut”. If you have subscribed to the Member+ service, you will still receive a separate Member+ newsletter.

How is the application developed, and is it possible to influence its content? 

The application is developed with the help of user surveys. 

I don’t have a smartphone; how do I get a membership card?

Go to Membership benefits page and follow the login instructions. Print out a paper copy of your membership card. Fill in your name and membership number on the card form. Your membership number can be found in the My Profile section (Member information). Note! The printout is not a travel insurance or visa certificate. You can order one here.

 

My phone’s operating system is neither Android nor iOS; how can I get a membership card?

Go to Membership benefits page and follow the login instructions. Print out a paper copy of your membership card. Fill in your name and membership number on the card form. I’m a SOOL member. Where do I get my membership card?

The SOOL membership card can also be found in the OAJ application. Follow the instructions to download the app.

 

Why does my membership card have the wrong association information?

The membership card’s association information is retrieved from the member register. A change in the employment relationship (new workplace or employer) may be pending. You can see the status of your change in the My Profile section. As soon as the change has been processed, the information will be updated. Incorrect association information does not prevent the use of the membership card.

I want a plastic membership card; what should I do?

Unfortunately, it is no longer possible to order a plastic membership card. The exception is the association of Retired Teachers in Finland (OSJ), whose members retain the plastic card.

 

Why was the plastic membership card abolished?

We have asked the opinion of our members in several service satisfaction surveys. The majority of respondents would have been prepared to give up the plastic card already in 2019. OAJ is involved in reducing the use of plastic. A plastic card expires, and mailing a new card to each member every three years is remarkably expensive.

Why was the petrol benefit removed?

OAJ's council has approved the 2021 OAJ's climate action program at its spring meeting. As a result, OAJ has decided to abandon the cooperation with St1. If you have used this membership benefit and want to get discounts next year as well, we recommend you to get St1's cash discount card (in finnish).


Is it possible to add the card to a mobile wallet?

There is no such possibility at the moment, but the matter is being looked into.

Does the membership card work offline?

Yes. The membership card does not require a data connection. 

Does the membership card work abroad?

In general, the acceptance of membership cards abroad varies greatly, depending on the country in which the card is used and the benefit in question. For example, insurance claims often have to be applied for afterwards, because no membership cards are accepted abroad as a certificate of insurance. The insurance company Turva is aware of the new membership card and has also forwarded the information to its cooperation partners. However, the local medical centre or a general member benefit provider may still refuse to accept the membership card.
