OAJ rejects settlement proposal concerning universities

On Monday , 19 May, the national conciliator issued a settlement proposal in the labour dispute concerning the collective agreement of universities. The OAJ Executive Board rejected the proposal, because it did not sufficiently safeguard the interests of teaching and research staff. The Juko (National Organisation for Public Sector Professionals) board did not confirm the settlement proposal after a vote.

The OAJ Executive Board rejected the proposal because it did not sufficiently safeguard the interest of teaching  and research staff. At this stage, the content of the settlement proposal is not yet public.

The Juko board did not confirm the settlement proposal after a vote. The proposal will be returned to the Juko University Advisory Board for consideration.

Collective agreement negotiations between universities and their teacher training schools have been taking place since February and the parties have been in mediation since the end of April. A rare strike for the university sector took place on 7 May at the University of Tampere. The spring round of negotiations has proven to be very difficult.
