Become a shop steward

Do you want to stand up for your colleagues? Become a shop steward!

Shop stewards represent the trade union and its members in the workplace. They safeguard the interests of the employees they represent and ensure that collective agreements are applied and respected at work.

A shop steward plays a vital role as a link between negotiating organisations and working life. Without shop stewards, unions would not hear which practices in the workplace work well — and which do not.

Anyone who wants to stand up for others and develop their workplace can become a shop steward. When representation works, the workplace is a good place to be.

Shop stewards are elected by their colleagues

You could be a great fit as a shop steward if you:

  • want to develop your workplace

  • want a front-row view of your entire sector

  • are ready to stand up for others – even assertively, when needed

  • want to develop yourself, including your negotiation skills
