Dual membership allows you to take advantage of the benefits and services offered by two trade unions.

Do you work as a teacher but wish to retain your degree-based membership in another Akava trade union? You can become a dual member, which means that you can belong to two Akava trade unions simultaneously. The dual membership lets you enjoy the benefits of two trade unions without having to pay two union fees, as the dual membership is significantly cheaper than the combined union fees for two unions.

For dual members, their primary trade union is the one that takes care of advocacy for the sector. OAJ is the only trade union that protects the interest of the education, training and research sector, so OAJ is always the primary trade union in dual memberships within the sector.

Who can become a dual member?

OAJ has dual union agreements with the Finnish Business School Graduates, the Union of Professional Engineers in Finland and Academic Engineers and Architects in Finland – TEK.

A dual membership guarantees economists and engineers effective education sector advocacy but at the same time, the opportunity to belong to their socio-professional group.
