The general increases in accordance with the collective agreements for the government and universities agreed in the spring will enter into force on 1 July 2025. In July and August, the payment of salary increases concerning the private education sector, early childhood education and vocational adult education centre agreements will start as well.

The negotiating parties Juko (National Organisation for Public Sector Professionals), JHL (Trade Union for the Public and Welfare Sectors), Pro (Trade Union Pro) and Sivistysala (Finnish Education Employers FEE) have accepted the settlement proposal submitted by the national conciliator on Monday evening. The collective agreement will enter into force on 21 May 2025. The strikes planned for the university sector will be cancelled.

On Monday , 19 May, the national conciliator issued a settlement proposal in the labour dispute concerning the collective agreement of universities. The OAJ Executive Board rejected the proposal, because it did not sufficiently safeguard the interests of teaching and research staff. The Juko (National Organisation for Public Sector Professionals) board did not confirm the settlement proposal after a vote.

The Negotiation Organisation for Public Sector Professionals JUKO, Trade Union Pro, and the Trade Union for the Public and Welfare Sectors JHL have today issued a strike notice for the universities of Helsinki and Turku.

No solution has been reached for the collective agreement of 35,000 university employees. Negotiations have been ongoing since early February, and the contract period ended at the end of March. To expedite the negotiations, the Negotiation Organisation for Public Sector Professionals JUKO, the Trade Union for the Public and Welfare Sectors JHL and the Trade Union Pro issued a strike notice for Tampere University on April 22nd.

OAJ and Finnish Education Employers (FEE) have approved the negotiation results on the salary increases for teaching staff for 2025 and 2026. In addition to salary increases, the negotiation result also includes guidelines for reducing the teaching obligations of general education teachers in the private education sector.

On Tuesday, 25 March, a negotiation result was reached in the negotiations on salary adjustments for 2025 and 2026 in the private education sector.

OAJ, YTN (Federation of Professional and Managerial Staff) and Sivistysala (Federation of Education Employers FEE) have approved the salary increases to be paid at universities of applied sciences for 2025. The parties have agreed on a general increase of 1.9 percent and a local share of 0.4 percent. The increases follow the general line of salary increases established at the beginning of the year.

Negotiations on the university collective agreement begin on February 4. The negotiations will also cover the agreement provisions of teacher training schools.
